A note from Elaine

Your copper will last
a lifetime.

Most jewellery always looks the same. That's because most jewellery is fake. Pure copper breathes, reacts and ages. And that's exactly the point.

It darkens. It deepens. It becomes yours.

Over time, pure copper develops what artisans call a patina, a living, rich layer that forms from contact with your skin, your sweat, your days. Some people love it. It tells the story of everywhere the piece has been.

Others prefer the original bright copper look. That's just as right. There's no wrong way to wear it. Only your way.

Either way, here's everything you need to keep your piece exactly how you like it.

"I've never polished my pieces to make them shiny again. I liked watching them age. A patina means the copper has been somewhere. It means it was real."

How to clean your copper

Three methods. All natural. All from your kitchen.

01

Lemon and Salt

The fastest

Citric acid dissolves oxidation almost instantly.

  1. Cut a lemon in half
  2. Dip it in salt
  3. Rub on the copper for 30-60 seconds
  4. Rinse with lukewarm water
  5. Dry immediately
02

White Vinegar and Salt

For heavy oxidation

The acidity does the work, no rubbing needed.

  1. Mix white vinegar with a teaspoon of salt
  2. Soak for 15-30 minutes
  3. Rinse thoroughly
  4. Dry immediately
03

Baking Soda and Lemon

The gentlest

Ideal for detailed or hand-engraved pieces.

  1. Mix into a paste
  2. Apply with a soft cloth or toothbrush
  3. Work gently into the grooves
  4. Rinse well
  5. Dry immediately

The Secret

Just wear it.

The natural oils in your skin gently polish the metal every day. A piece left in a drawer oxidises faster than one worn daily.

Copper rewards the ones who never take it off.

What to keep away from your copper

Chlorine and Pools Salt Water Harsh Soaps Perfumes Chemical Cleaners Ultrasonic Cleaners Bleach Toothpaste

When in doubt, take it off before swimming or applying anything to your skin. Put it back on when you're done.

The green mark.

If you notice a faint green mark on your skin, that's copper oxide, a harmless reaction between pure copper, your sweat and your skin's natural chemistry.

It means your copper is real. Plated pieces stop leaving any mark once the coating wears off, because there's no copper left. A green mark means the copper is still there, still in contact, still doing what it's meant to do.

It washes off easily with soap and water. Most people stop noticing it altogether within a few weeks.

Storing your copper

When you take it off, how you store it matters. Moisture is the main enemy of a bright copper surface.

  • Store it in the dry cloth pouch it arrived in
  • An airtight bag significantly slows oxidation
  • Keep it away from bathrooms and humidity
  • Avoid direct sunlight for long periods
  • Keep it away from other metals to avoid scratches
